Three corps members reportedly died in an auto crash on their way to a
wedding yesterday in Katsina state.
Confirming the incident, the spokes person of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Katsina State, Alex Obemeata said the accident, which happened in Gobirawa village along Katsina–Kankara road, claimed the lives of the corps members who were travelling with their colleagues for a wedding at a Catholic church in Funtua.
Report has it that the vehicle conveying the corps memebers somersaulted following a break failure caused by heavy downpour i the area.
Mr Alex said, “Sunday, August 18, 2019, is a sad day for the NYSC in Katsina State as three corps members lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident on their way to a church programme in Funtua.
“The corps members numbering 12 were in one bus belonging to the National Association of Catholic Corps Members, Katsina. Three of them died on the spot.”
He also added that the crash occurred when the state governor Aminu Masari, was passing by at Gobirawa, Kankara LGA on Sunday.
According to him, the governor stopped over and ordered a vehicle in the convoy to take the injured to the hospital.
According to sahara reporters, the NYSC Coordinator in Katsina, Alhaji Ahidjo Yahaya, was at the hospital in the company of some senior members of staff when the ambulance carrying the injured and the deceased arrived.
