A van smuggling a migrant and 11 others through Croatia crashed into a river after being chased by a police earlier today, Sunday.
According to NAN, the man driving the van was reportedly asked to stop by a Police officer for a check but he refused and zoomed off.
He, however, lost control and dived into the Kupa river at Slatina Prokupska, 50 kilometres south of Zagreb, according to local police.
The driver then escaped from the van, and fled on foot, leaving the submerged vehicle behind.
Police officers managed to drag the 12 people trapped inside from the water, but the woman later died. The driver is still at large according to report.
A day earlier, a 20-year-old Bangladeshi was killed when a car smuggling him and 13 others crashed.
