#RevolutionNow: Journalist, eight others arrested in Lagos

According to Sahara Reporters, the police has arrested Victor Ogungbenro, a video editor and cameraman with SaharaReporters and eight others at the RevolutionNow protest ongoing in Lagos State.

According to reports, the journalist and eight others were taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, Lagos State earlier today after being arrested at the scene of the protest.

The young lady, who is not named for security reasons, said, “We kept telling them that he is with Sahara Reporters but instead that worsened the case and made them take him away.

“They did not allow him to identify himself. He was beaten and dragged on the floor while being taken away.”

COZA: Fatoyinbo Returns To Pulpit One Month After Stepping Down

Yesterday, the COZA senior pastor delivered a sermon titled, Sudden victories, in a packed church auditorium one month after he stepped down following the rape allegation labelled against him by Busola Dakolo, wife of ace musician, Timi Dakolo. 

According to The Punch, Fatoyinbo said it was written in the Bible that Christians would always face persecution, but God would ensure that they are victorious.

He also added that, “As a Christian, you must face opposition. If God, who is holy and faithful has enemies, you are sure going to have.” 

“In wrestling, any method can be used. When faced with challenging circumstances, pray, fast, decree, confess and prophesy God’s victory over your life.

“Most contrary situations around you are set up by the enemy to ripple your faith and keep you on a spot,” he preached.

Fatoyinbo prophesied that his parishioners would witness victory in the new month of August.

However, he is currently being probed by the Nigeria Police over the rape allegation. 

OAU Final Year Student Commits Suicide

A student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in Osun State identified as Opeyemi Grace Dara reportedly commits suicide after the consumption of a lethal substance best known as sniper.

According to the institution she took the substance twice and was first rushed to the hospital for treatment were she survived but unfortunately took another dose.

In a statement issued by the OAU spokesperson, Abiodun Olanrewaju, Dara who resided off-campus, allegedly first took the sniper on April 22, 2019. He said, “the security unit of the University, on getting the information, went to her house, took her first to the University Health Centre where she was referred to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex.”

Olanrewaju said, “She was treated and discharged home to her parents. She was said to have been brought in by the parents and readmitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the OAUTHC last Thursday, August 1 after another dose of sniper, and she, unfortunately, died the next day.  There are indications that she had an underlying medical condition which probably was behind her choice of committing suicide. 

The police however said investigation is ongoing.

Woman Found Dead under the bed in a hotel in Imo State

An unidentified young lady suspected to be in her mid 20s was found dead under the bed in a hotel in Owerri, Imo State

The incident reportedly happened over the weekend in a hotel located around World Bank Road. She was discovered by the hotel cleaner and all her underwear were found missing.

It was also gathered that the killer strangled her to dead and fled with all her belongings making it difficult for her to be identified.
The case has since been reported to the police.

All you need to know about Sowore's Arrest

Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, was arrested by men of the Department of State Services who invaded his apartment in the early hours of today, Saturday 3rd August 2019.

Since then, information about his whereabouts is reportedly sketchy.

The men were reportedly eight in number and got him arrested between 1:00am and 1:30am after a slight altercation in this apartment. 

Omoyele Sowore was ACC's Presidential candidate in the February 2019 General Elections and was reportedly arrested because he was planning a protest tagged ‘Revolution Now’ movement which seeks good governance.

The police however has responded to the arrest and says it's a Felony.

In a statement shared on its verified Twitter handle, the force said that it would not fold its arms in the face of such calls.

“The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a video circulating on the social media by the ‘Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria and others’, inciting Nigerians, home and abroad, to join a planned ‘revolution’ march against the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Monday, 5th August, 2019 with the sole aim of forcing a regime change in the country.

“The Force wishes to state unequivocally that the call amounts to treasonable felony and acts of terrorism and will therefore not stand idly by and watch any individual or group in the society cause anarchy in the land.

“While acknowledging the rights of Nigerians to embark on protest, the Force wishes to note that such rights should not translate to a violent and forceful change of government which clearly is the meaning of ‘revolution’.

The force went further to add that “Needless to state that Nigeria is a democratic republic and has well-defined processes for change of government, exercised periodically during various cycle of elections.

“The Force therefore warns the organizers, sponsors, allies, supporters, associates and sympathisers of the group ‘Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria’ to, in their own interest, steer clear of any such planned protest, demonstration, acts of incitement and proposed “revolution”, as the full wrath of the law will be brought to bear on any individual or group engaged or found participating in the above planned criminal act.

“Parents and Guardians are therefore enjoined to impress on their children and wards not to allow themselves to be used in whatever form by any person or group of persons to cause breach of law and order in the country."

“The Police will work with other Law Enforcement Agencies and positive-minded Nigerians to protect, defend and secure our public peace and space.”

Student Arrested for Stabbing Final year Student to death over Electricity bill

200 level student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Asogwa Nnamdi, has been arrested by the Enugu State Police Command over alleged murder of Chukwudi Mba, a 400 level student at the same institution, .

Nnamdi reportedly stabbed Mba to death during an argument over the payment of an electricity bill issued to their lodge.

According to SP Ebere Amaraizu the Police Public Relations Officer in the Enugu State, the Command had arrested the suspect on Friday and had also commenced investigation into the incident.

He said, “The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has commenced a full-scale investigation into the alleged murder of a 400 level student of Public Administration of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, by a co-student in 200 level.

“On that day, the suspect, later identified as one Asogwa Nnamdi, alias Tiny, of about 23 years old, a 200 level student at UNN, stabbed one Chukwudi Mba to death with a knife at their lodge, Alfred’s Lodge, Nsukka, over a yet-to-be established issue".

He also added that the suspect stabbed Mba at the back and was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed death. His body has since been deposited in the mortuary. 

“The suspect stabbed the deceased Mba in the back. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was later confirmed dead. The suspect has been arrested and is already helping with Police investigation.”

Four men along side two companies plead guilty to unlawful possession of N1bn gold, €112,800

Four men reportedly plead guilt of unlawfull possesion of gold worth over N1bn and €112,800 at the Federal High Court in Abuja, earlier today.

According to Punch, the prime suspect, Abba Yahaya was said to have been arrested with the items at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja while aboard an Ethiopian Airline flight to Dubai in the United Arab Emirate.

The defendants comprising four men and three firms pleaded guilty to the two counts which were read to them before Justice Nkeonye Maha.

The defendants are, Yahaya, Ali Abdullahi, Aminu Adam, Aliyu Mohammed and their companies.

The companies with whom they were charged are, Indo Nigeria Minning Co. Ltd, A.A Mai Zinari Ltd, and Al-Izzat
