3 year old boy saved with a blanket after falling from a 6 storey building

A 3-year-old boy reportedly fell from the sixth floor of a building in China and was saved after a crowd caught him with a blanket, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

In a video footage the boy was seen hanging off the balcony in the southwestern city of Chongqing. He was reportedly climbing back up, but his feet slip and he was left holding onto the edge living spectators in fear.

As a crowd forms, several people rush forward with a blanket, an eye witness says according to CCTV:

"I looked up and saw a little child was dangling up there. My first reaction was to find something to catch him. I thought about rushing over there and catch him with my bare hands, but that would not have worked,"

"I held out the blanket along with others, all the while keeping my eyes on the child. I looked at the blanket wondering whether we could catch him safely. My only thought was to keep him safe." He added.

Shi’ites-Police clash: Injured corps member discharged from hospital

Remember the corps member which was hit by a bullet on the 22 July as Shiites and Police clashed? He has been discharged from the hospital.

Similar incident had initially claimed the life of another corps member, Precious Owolabi, while reporting the event for Channels TV as his primary assignment.

According to Twitter handle @officialnyscng, the Director-General, Brigadier General shuaibu Ibrahim while receiving Suleiman in his office was thankful to God for sparing his life.

Recounting his ordeal, Aliyu said, ‘We heard gunshots close to us, while our driver was about to turn, I couldn’t feel my arm, it was then I realised that I was hit by a bullet and I immediately notified my CDS officer, who called the attention of the NYSC FCT Management on the incident’.

The corps member has since been redeployed to his home state for proper medical care and monitoring

Over 17 Villagers Killed as Pakistani army plane crashed into a residential area in Rawalpindi

Not less than 17 people were reported dead after a Pakistani army plane crashed into a residential area in the major city of Rawalpindi early Tuesday morning.

According to the country's military statement, neighbouring residents reportedly heard a loud explosion at about 2 a.m. after seeing a plane flying unusually low over the city.

"It was very, very low, unlike the planes that usually fly over the area," said restaurant worker Irfan Zareen. "Suddenly, the plane started doing somersaults in the air and abruptly crashed."

The area is said to have mostly working-class villages. Zareen said a number of houses were either damaged or destroyed.

According to CNN, bike shop owner Mehvish Iqlaq said army helicopters and ambulances arrived and sealed off the area within 10 minutes of the crash. The area had been dark, without street lights, when the plane came down, she added.

Ethiopia Breaks World Record, Plants 353 Million Trees in 12 hours

Ethiopia reportedly planted more than 353 million trees in 12 hours on Monday, and officials believe this is a world record.

This is said to be a part of a wider reforestation campaign named "Green Legacy," spearheaded by the Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in the country. Millions of Ethiopians across the country were invited to take part in the challenge and within the first six hours, Ahmed tweeted that around 150 million trees had been planted.

"We're halfway to our goal," he said and encouraged Ethiopians to "build on the momentum in the remaining hours." 

According to CNN Africa, after the 12-hour period ended, the Prime Minister took to Twitter again to announce that Ethiopia not only met its "collective #GreenLegacy goal," but exceeded it.

A total of 353,633,660 tree seedlings had been planted, the country's minster for innovation and technology, Getahun Mekuria tweeted.

He made this known at the university’s sixth convocation held on Friday.

He further made it clear that there is an urgent need to repackage the continent’s education system to align with the best global practices.

He said, “It must be a departure from figure to future-building, a departure from points to facts, a departure from mathematics to life-matics and a departure from legalism to realism.’’

“The number one purpose for setting up Landmark University is to help young people to see the treasure hidden in the mother earth through agri-preneurship and other incentives" He added. 

The university recorded 51 first-class graduates out of 432 presented for the convocation.

Former NULGE chairman kidnapped on his way to his farm in Edo

The former chairman of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Alhaji Jimoh Olumoye, has been kidnapped on his way to his farm in Igarra-Okpe Road on Sunday afternoon while driving in his car to pick his children from the farm.

Daily Trust gathered that his children raised alarm when they saw their father’s car with the doors opened and his phones abandoned.

“His children had gone to the farm early in the morning and he promised to go and picked them in the afternoon before he would attend his family meeting." said the family source.

“The children waited endlessly for their father and when they did not see him, decided to be trekking home. On their way home, they met his car on the road with the four doors opened and his mobile phone abandoned. After searching for their father fruitlessly, they decided to now come home to inform the family. We have been praying for his safety, we are worried because he is a civil servant who also farms to augment whatever he is earning as a civil servant. We are appealing that his abductors release him unhurt. He has an aged mother and everybody is scared of breaking the news to her, we are really worried”. Says an anonymous who told Daily Trust.

 A complaint has been logged at the Igarra police station.

vigilance groups have been mobilized to comb the forests around the area.

A member of the vigilance group said, “It was only the State Security Service that responded to our call immediately we heard of the incident and called them. We have mobilised our members and we trying to track them down in the forests so they would move out to other states close to us." He said. 

Investigationso are currently ongoing to bring the kidnappers to book.

20 masquerades allegedly attack Police station, injure three policemen in Benue

Not fewer than 20 masquerades reportedly attacked a Police station in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State and injured about 3 policemen.

Reports has it that Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on earlier today, Monday, 29 July  ordered 10 men who allegedly attacked a Police Station in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State be remanded in prison pending legal advice.

The Magistrate, Ms Rose Iyorshe, did not take the plea of the suspects, but remanded them in the Makurdi Medium Prisons.

The suspects are currently facing four counts of criminal conspiracy, trespass, attempt to commit culpable homicide, mischief and an act of terrorism. 

Ms Rose Iyorshe, who did not take their pleas for want of jurisdiction, ordered the Police to duplicate the case file and send it back to the Benue Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

She adjourned the case until August 26 for further mention.
