The city of Maiduguri witnessed the return of elite football for the first time in almost four years on Sunday, April 10, as El-Kanemi Warriors hosted Shooting Stars of Ibadan in the Borno state capital.
Ibrahim Mustapha opened scoring for the hosts in the 57th minute before Ohanachom made it two, one minute into stoppage time. El-Kanemi won the match 2 – 0.
However, El-Kanemi supporters turned out en masse to witness the return of football to the state which has been ravaged by Boko Haram activities.
The goalkeeper of Shooting Stars King Emmanuel Fabiyi explained to Naij.com that the city is now safe as residents are going about their normal life.
